Jitwan Floyd and Reid Turner join SMITH | ROBINSON law firm as associates

Attorneys Jitwan Floyd and Reid Turner have joined SMITH | ROBINSON law firm as associates. Both will practice out of the firm’s Columbia office.

Jitwan will focus his practice in the areas of civil rights litigation, insurance defense, general litigation, and tort claims act litigation. Reid will practice in general litigation, appellate practice, tort claims act litigation, and commercial litigation.

Jitwan earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law in 2025. His involvement during his studies was highlighted by his service on the Pro Bono Board and his work as a Student Attorney in the Criminal Practice Clinic, where he represented clients before the South Carolina Board of Paroles and Pardons and in magistrate court. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Political Science, cum laude, from Lander University in 2021.

Before beginning his practice as an attorney, he clerked for the Honorable J. Mark Hayes II, Circuit Court, in Spartanburg, worked as a Law Clerk at SMITH | ROBINSON from 2024 to 2025, and previously clerked for a Chapter 13 Trustee. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar, admitted in November 2025. Additionally, he is admitted to practice in the Federal District Court of South Carolina and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“I am excited to begin my career as an attorney with a firm I already know so well,” he said. “Having clerked here, I’ve seen firsthand the caliber of work this team produces, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside them.”

Outside of the office, he enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and working in the funeral service industry.

Reid earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2024, graduating in the top 10% of his class and earning induction into the Order of the Coif and the Order of the Wig and Robe. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2020.

Before joining the firm as an attorney, he clerked for the Honorable Blake A. Hewitt on the South Carolina Court of Appeals and for the South Carolina House of Representatives Judiciary Committee. He also has previous experience with SMITH | ROBINSON, having worked as a Project Assistant and Law Clerk between 2020 and 2024.

“I’m proud to return to a firm that shaped so much of my legal education,” he said. “I look forward to continuing that work now as an attorney.”

In addition to his law practice, he enjoys spending time with his wife and family, playing soccer and cheering on Gamecock athletics.
